Introduction to the annealed wire process

EXCERPT:

The annealed wire is obtained by annealing the cold-drawn wire through drawing after coiling. During the cold-drawing process, the structure and mechanical properties of the steel wire change. Due to the phenomenon of work hardening, when the deformation reaches a certain degree, the cold working performance of the steel wire will significantly decrease, making it unsuitable for further drawing. At this point, the steel wire needs to undergo an intermediate heat treatment to restore various processing properties, and this intermediate heat treatment process is called annealing. The purpose of annealing is to reduce hardness, improve machining performance, eliminate residual stress, stabilize dimensions, and reduce deformation and cracking tendencies; it also eliminates structural defects.

The annealing process involves placing the cold-drawn wire into an annealing tank or furnace, slowly heating it to a certain temperature, maintaining it for a sufficient time, and then cooling it at an appropriate rate. Once removed, the annealing purpose is achieved. Annealing typically takes around 2-12 hours. The manufacturing process is essentially completed at this point.

Next comes the packaging, where an important step that cannot be omitted is oiling. Oiling typically involves lubricating oil, rust preventive oil, or machine oil. This ensures that the wire remains rust-free for an extended period and has a brighter surface. Finally, according to customer requirements, the wire is weighed and packaged into coils of 50kg, 25kg, 5kg, 3kg, 1kg, etc., then wrapped with a layer of plastic film followed by a layer of burlap or woven bag. After passing inspection by factory personnel, the products are ready for shipment to customers.
